April 20th
Well guys another great seasaon under our belts here at GSR. I can't say enough 'Thank Yous to everyone who helped make our season successful! It was a scary venture to put in a retail shop into the mix, but we've had great interest, and GSR is proud to say it went very well. So again, Thank you to everyone who came out to Golden and rented and visited our shop! See you all again in the fall with huge new retail lines like HMK, FXR, Slednecks, Pieps and Klim!
April 17th
Another gray day out here in Golden. But long term forecast starts to look promising. High pressure is rolling in the first of the week and should stick around for awhile! Looks like spring is back all! See you on the snow! BIG DAWG SHOOT OUT is in Whistler this weekend too for all those Horse Power junkies!
April 13th
Although I didn't sled yesterday I do have a solid grasp on what is going on in the backcountry...
BE CAREFULL! This is the first real week we have experienced temperatures in the alpine that exceed the old mighty '0' degrees. The snow pack is heating rapidly and loosing all cohesion becoming isothermic and even sliding naturally via solar heating (the sun). Obviously the afternoons are where most of the problems arise, however keep in mind if you are entering terrain that could prove dangerous later in the day, plan ahead a path of safe return. That being said, play safe and have fun out there!! Enjoy the snow we have left!!!
April 11th
OK OK OK I know I've been slackin...
I do apologize! I have been hiding out at Chatter Creek for awhile getting my riding fix in after a busy winter. Well I did get my fix and had a blast and back and ready to attack our last few weeks here at GSR for the season. Stop by say hello, looks like we'll be closing the doors on the 21st. See you all soon!!
Big thank you to Russ at FXR Racing for coming and helping out on our Chatter trip.
March 30th
Hit Gorman today with some friends from Manitoba! Great day of riding in AMAZING late season conditions. We found our fair share of fresh jumps and landings, and a few bowls of fresh... I'm not going to lie it was one of my best days of the season!!! That's a big statement considering it's almost April...
March 29th
Attached Hope Creek today with about 14 other trucks loads of people... wow times are changing.
March 28th
Great day in Quartz Creek today with a sunny morning! As the clouds moved in there was some tricky terrain negotiation going on, but that's what keeps it interesting out there! Soooo fun!
March 26th
Weather forecast = snow, real time "look out the window forecast" = sunny skies with fresh snow... yeeehaaaaaaa
March 24th
Went for a ride today in Gorman Lake! Light was in and out so we went to Upper Holt where the weather seems to break on a more regular basis, and our hunch was right! With some sunny pockets we played in a variable fresh couple feet of snow! Spring is definitely here but we seemed to still find some great areas of fresh!
March 22nd
Easter Weekend is here, and slammed we are. Always super busy for us here as the season begins to wind down. We are all trying to get our last days in and plan our last trips out! We'll officially stay open until the second week in April, and see how our snow is holding up from there! Big thank you to all who are here this weekend!
March 18th
With over 30cm of new snow this week, and nothing but snow in our short term weather future, it should prove to be an interesting spring! I've said it before, and I'll say it again... YEEEHAAAAAA!!!!!
March 17th
Went to the KIMPEX show in Revelstoke today and our shop is going to be hosting some new flashy stuff for 09! HMK is one of our main big additions with boots and apparel. We'll also continue carrying Superclamp / glide, Carlisle belts for all manufacturers, plugs, helmets, etc.
March 15th
Went for my first ride today in the Blaeberry. I'd have to say it was pretty fun. Anyone looking for a great trail ride with some very low exposure sledding, this zone is amazing. If you can find your way to the alpine at the VERY end of the trail you'll be pleasantly surprised.
March 12th
Mellow yellow day today. A few friends, our skies, some sun, and a bit of fresh. Saw a couple of slides come down today. Spring is here... I think...
March 10th
Can you believe it is March? Crazy! Weather is moving in today and carrying some precip. I'll keep you posted on what falls! Should be interesting! Bring on some fresh white stuff!
March 7th
Did a quick "picnic" trip into Quartz today for about two hours over lunch. What a way to have a picnic! Quick 14km ride into the cabin at Quartz Creek, eat some lunch say some hello's and come back out. Thank you to all who where out today!
March 5th
I finally got a chance to get out on snow today and am I ever glad I did. Sunny skies, fresh snow, new area... I'm bagged. We all love the deep pow, but when it comes down to it, it's hard to beat a sunny, relaxing day exploring new zones with friends. Thanks boyz!
March 4th
Amazing out there today. Had a group that went to Quartz and said all the tracks were covered, snow was great, and sun was starting to break through. Looks like the high pressure is rolling in for a few days! Sunny skies with a fresh foot or two. Sounds like heaven.
March 1st
Sun was out today, and there was fresh snow in the mountains, and with the highway closed yesterday due to an accident, Quartz Creek was left untracked! Had a great day riding with a few out of towners and our mechanic. Spring isn't here yet!!
Feb 27th
My back is starting to feel better, and I think it is almost time to get back on snow! Looks like there is a low pressure in our future here, so lets keep our fingers crossed for some new snow! Yeehaaaaa!
Feb 21st
Just checked the weather and looks like a low pressure is coming to visit for a few days this weekend!! Snow is in the forecast! I'll keep you all posted!
Feb 19th
Went for a great ride today in with some cow town buddies, and Adrian, our GSR mechanic. What a day! Sun was shining, snow was good with very few tracks, and did I mention it was... HOT. No jackets on, eating lunch at 8500ft. staring at beautiful glaciers, and chatting about lucky we are to be able to play in the backcountry. Thanks guys, it was a day I won't soon forget!
Feb 16th
Alberta Family week is here!! I love this week, for some reason every year the Albertans bring fresh snow and sunny skies! Weather forecast for the weekend is SUN SUN, and more SUN. Wish I was out there!! haha, see you all soon!
BIG thank you goes out to Kelly, and his other groomer operators who spent the night behind the wheel making sure everything was silky smooth for the weekend! Thanks boys!!
Feb 14th
Well well well, apparently we had a good day yesterday cause my back is out, and I'm stuck... only this time it's on the couch...
Good luck today boyz, enjoy the pow!
Feb 13th
OMG, I know it seems like all I ever talk about is Quartz, but to be honest it really has a lot of diversity as far as riding zones go... and with over 70cm of fresh in the past week, it gets a little sweeter! BIG THANK YOU goes out to the crew who was out today for making everything go smoothly! WHAT A DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Feb 9th
Past five days = 50 + cm. Reports from riders yesterday in the shop was over a meter of fresh... Sounds good! Can't wait until tomorrow!!
Feb 7th
Five day forecast.... SNOW! Enough said! Should prove to be an interesting cycle. Soooooo deep!!!!
Feb 6th - Quartz Creek
What a day out there! Snowing so hard you could bairly see! Stuck to the trees today with windslabs growing, and convex rolls getting fatter, stability is changing... Had a great, great day in the deep new snow none the less! Thanks guuys!!!!
Feb 2nd - Quartz Creek
Had a great day today with some local friends rippen around and enjoying some 'much needed' fresh snow! Accumulation over the past week or so has added up nicely and with low traffic volumes, made for a good combo. Thanks boys for another great day! Finally deep once again!
Jan 30th - Gorman Area
Was in Gorman area today and had a great day. Light was in and out, but we managed to find a zone where it didn't matter! Even rode my snowboard today for three or four laps. I don't get the opportunity to ride much anymore, and had a blast! Thanks Ry, and gang for the day!
Jan 27th
What an amazing weekend!! Busy busy here at GSR which always makes me happy, but so does new snow and we got it. We pulled another 20cm out of that little system! Needless to say we are all smiling! An 'Arctic High' just rolled in late last night, and wow... we woke up to a nice -22 this morning, and possible colder temps tomorrow. Yikes, I'll tell you all about it in the next few days.............burr.
Jan 23rd
Went to a new zone today in the chilly -27 degree temps... Found some great 'pow' to play in, mostly on dried up river beds and old cut blocks, but had a blast none the less! Thanks guys for coming along!!!
Jan 21st - Quartz
Had a mellow day today with some local boyz! Did a few snowboard laps, and even a "noboard" lap. These things are so much fun for any one who is into snowboarding. Have a look. Give it a try. You will crash, and you'll love it..... haha
Jan 20th - Shop...
Well, I decided to through down and work today and mang, look what happens... What a day out there, if anyone is reading this who was out today, I AM JEALOUS!!! Amazing day here in Golden today, and looks like we have a high pressure here to stay for the better part of the week. Enjoy, new snow with sunny skies, what more could you ask for? pic
Jan 19th
Here is the deal ya'll, it's snowing still with 5+ on the ground down here in town and no signs of it letting up!! Looks like next week should be "sick". We have a high pressure rolling in tuesday for two or three days... might be a good opportunity to get out and dig some pits, and see what that snow pack is up to. I'll be digging a pit or two while I'm out this week, if you guys have interest I'll post some photos of what we find. If anyone is interested in avi courses send us an e-mail and we'll send you some options of courses available out there! Yeeeehaaaaaaa FRESH POOOOW!!!
Jan 18th
It is starting to snow again...hard... Keep posted.
Jan 15th
Nice sunny day in Oldman, one of the smaller zones in the Golden Backcountry/Dogtooth Range. You may or may not have heard of this zone before, but it can be great. Unfortunately there isn't quite enough coverage in there yet. This zone requires a lot of accumulation to make 'good to go', but it isn't quite there yet. Maybe another few weeks yet. Lets keep our fingers crossed. Still a great day with great friends out in the beautiful natural landscape, just minutes from our back door. Pix
Jan 12/13th
Saturday started off with a trip to Quartz Cabin for Canadian Avalanche Awareness Days where we held a BBQ and distributed info packs from the CAA for participants. We also gave out prizes like probes, shovels, and CAA swag. Big thank you goes out the Canadian Avalanche Centre!
Jan 9th
Still recovering from Monday! What a day. The skies covered back in over the past few days and snowed again. What a season! We'll be in Quartz this Saturday with the BBQ and Canadian Avalanche Association prizes for CAA's 'Avalanche Awareness Days'. Come on out and support our local snowmobile club, and the CAA!! Bring CASH MONEY! haha
Jan 7th
I have been keeping a close eye on the weather the past few days and it turns out today is the day. Luckily I had only one delivery to make today and it was in the right direction! We loaded up first thing in the morning and headed out to Gorman where the skies opened up and showed us what the sun looks like. Wow it has been awhile but it is as beautiful as I remembered. With two feet plus of fresh we let loose. Thanks for the day boys!
Thank you's
I'd just like to send a huge 'thank you' out to FXR Racing, and Motor Tech Enterprises for all the help so far this season, and over the past few years. FXR hooked me up this year with some amazing gear! I've been rocking the Vertical camo jacket and black/white pants and have been warm and dry all season! The gear is as tough as nails and I do crash from time to time (haha) and it still looks brand new! I have also been wearing the Cold Cross gloves and the Octane Boot, all keeping smiles on my face. Again I can't thank you enough! Let it snow!
Jan 3rd
In the middle of another good system with over 20cm over night and another 20+ expected today. The system doesn't look like it's going to let up for another few days, so get ready for another DEEP trip! Yeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaa!
Jan 1st
Happy NEW YEAR Y'ALL. Well the craziness is almost over here in Golden, and what an amazing x-mas holiday it was for everyone. Dec 21st
... I don't know how to explain how today went. It started off a bad day searching for a few lost sledders in big terrain. All signs pointed in the wrong direction, but as we rounded a bend in the road we met two guys tired, cold and on their way out!! Golden Search and Rescue found them by helicopter, and led the way out. A big thank you goes out to "Search" for once again helping those in need! Our day took a change for the better with over two feet of fresh, blue skies, and nothing left to do but shred!! Check it out...
Dec 20th
With 40cm of fresh snow over the past few days we were happy to get out there yesterday and... "test the snow". Great day although it was dark and snowy... we did get a half hour break with beautiful sunny skies so what more could we ask for. Big thank you to Sledshot.com for the day! We filmed a new Sledshot.com 'Rider Tip' demonstrating proper "sidehilling" techniques that should be up on the site in the next week or two. Thanks again, see you soon!
Dec 17th
Amazing day with some friends from Cow Town yesterday in Area 51. We had fresh trax in off the cornice, and got to play down there for hours before some unsuspecting fellows found their way in! hhaha. Thanks boyz for the great day!!

Dec 10th - Gorman
Took a quick rip into Gorman yesterday to see how things set up after our last cycle and I was blown away. We went into Lang Creek and it was deep, windy, and dark, but great snow. Turned around and headed to Holt and to our amazement, it was sunny, deep and booter city. Jumps everywhere ready to go! Great day, short, but great!!
Dec 7th
Amazing day yesterday in Quartz Creek, with a BUNCH of new snow around, very few people, and untouched bowls every which way... not a bad day. It was Adrian (our mechanic's) birthday, not bad huh? We were laughing at how there is no better way to spend a birthday then roopin' in 3 feet of fresh, sunny skies, with your best boyz on a few new XPs hahaha. Weather looks great for the next few days, next system should be here by tuesday/wednesday of next week, so lets keep our fingers crossed!
Dec 4th
My god... It just snowed over 2 feet here in town, who knows how much it snowed up in the mountains! Just looked at the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort conditions and they said it has snowed over 60cm in the past 48 hours. It's going to be a big avalanche cycle out there, but it will fill up our valleys with snow and cover the rocks until the spring. We've been needing it! And it is suppose to snow again tonight! YEEEHAAAAAAA!!!!!! Sunny on the weekend!!! Check out this video on SkiingGolden.com get some insight on what is going on!
Dec 2nd
Well, "Heavy Snowfall Warning" is on. We have slides covering the highways, we have accumulation of over 3cm+ per hour... IT'S ON!
Dec 1st

Nov 26th
We had a great weekend here in Golden with lots of visitors and some new snow Saturday night, but nothing compared to what we are looking at for the next three days... snow snow snow. We needed it. Quartz was a struggle yesterday to find fresh. We did find a few pockets that, with out a doubt, made our day, but the "stock" good were thrashed. Not to worry it's all about to freshin' up! Thank you everyone who rented and stopped in this weekend! See you all soon!
Nov 24th - Quartz Creek
Well Kelly, thank you so much! Golden Trail Society kicked er' into gear for the 07/08 season. Kelly (groomer operator) was out and did an amazing first pass on the Quartz Creek trail all the way to "The Sign". Had a great day in the sun, got to try out my new XP and all I have to say is DANG!! Randy at Motor Tech changed my gear ratios and did a few little clutch changes, and watch out!!!! Crazy. Thank you guys!
Nov 22nd
Nasty rumor says the Quartz trail (or most of it) will be groomed this evening... I'll let you know tomorrow! I'm going to take my new XP X 46 out for a little rip for the first time... So stoked. Thank you MOTOR TECH!!!!
Nov 18th
Dang, delivered some machines to Quartz today so I thought I might as well go for a rip. I like to call it "research"... After one of the worst trail rides of all time I entered winter wonderland! We pulled up and over the ridge into Area 51 with not a single track in sight. Myself and three friends played in there until we were out of gas... What a day! Photos
I hear the trails will be groomed for the weekend! Lets keep our fingers crossed... Thanks Andy B for the pics!
Nov 17th
Was at the Calgary show today for a look around. Super busy show! Great to see the boys at FXR again! Just got my new 'kit' in the mail yesterday, and I'm super pumped on it!
